China Robot network editor interviewed Tuo Hua, the founder of Luoshi Technology, to understand Luoshi's growth path.
Accumulated, to build a better robot brand
Tuo Hua graduated from Peking University majoring in electronics and communication engineering. After his master's degree, he entered Ericsson, one of the world's top 500 enterprises, which was a common career development path, but he always hoped to find a breakthrough. To this end, during the period of master's study, in addition to studying school lessons, he also worked as an intern in Motorola Media Lab, IBM and SONY Research Institute to learn technology research and development process and management experience. By chance, he left Ericsson in August 2010 to enter the industrial robotics industry.
He has been engaged in the research and development of robots in a private enterprise and a central enterprise research institute, after years of technology accumulation and gradual in-depth understanding of the industry, he has a deeper understanding of the status quo and development direction of the domestic industry. In the research institute of the central enterprise, he also met the partner of the current career, three young people get along day and night, take the company as a home, hoping to create a robot product with core technology as soon as possible, more than half a year, 150kg robot prototype factory. In this process, Tuo Hua thought that we have an excellent team and a leading robot R&D technology in China, so why can't we build a better robot brand? The idea of starting a business was born.
After discussing with like-minded friends, the three decided to set up their own robot company, and named it "Luoshi". The reason for the name Luoshi, Tuo Hua said: "' Don't want to be like jade, Luoluo like stone 'is derived from the Tao Te Ching, meaning that you don't want to be a gorgeous jade, but a hard rock. This sentence represents Luoshi Technology's pursuit of product quality. Our belief is to make product quality as solid as a rock, withstand the test of industrial production, withstand the challenge of harsh working conditions, and bring greater value to users. "This also lays the foundation of Luoshi's corporate culture and development direction.
Take the bull by the horns and start with the robot control system
At present, there are thousands of enterprises engaged in the robot industry in China, large and small, but few really master the core technology. According to the law of robot development in developed countries, there will be a large number of robot mergers and bankruptcies in the future, until there are a few enterprises that master the core technology.
At present, the core technology of robots is monopolized by foreign robot companies, especially the three core parts of robots: robot control system, and precision reducer, servo system, since you want to do your own robot, you can not rely on others' technology. After market research, combined with their own professional knowledge, the three people decided to start from the core parts control system, "the master has his weaknesses, the inch has his strengths", and developed a development strategy that quickly cut into the market with the better field, and then continue to grow.
Robot control system is a technology product with high technical barriers, great demand for talent and capital, the biggest problem in the early stage of entrepreneurship is people, can not find the right R & D personnel. Tuo Hua told us: "At that time, there were very few people doing the bottom research and development of robots in China, let alone doing the bottom research and development, there were not many people who knew what a robot was. It is not easy to meet a few people who understand this industry, and they are not necessarily willing to join our small entrepreneurial team. In the case of limited resources and limited personnel to do this kind of low-level research and development, the pressure is still very large, almost any decision can not be wrong, because it can not afford the consequences of a decision error."
Fortunately, three people resist the pressure, the controller is also the old practice of previous research, deep technical accumulation makes it easier to get a breakthrough, although the front of a product development has not yet a formal UI design, the customer on the performance of its products greatly appreciated, "said such a good technology why not early industrialization out?" Let's buy foreign controllers, expensive, difficult to maintain, not good to use, "the customer's simple words have brought them great encouragement.
A good product can naturally attract Bole, Luoshi's financing is very smooth, through the introduction of friends to participate in the road show, immediately by plum Venture Capital angel investor Wu Shichun saw, the next day at 1 PM to the office to talk, in the office chat less than 10 minutes, Wu Shichun asked the company's bank account, on the spot first 2 million yuan, and then do the investment agreement. With good products and funds, Luoshi's entrepreneurial road has finally taken the first step.
Adjust the strategy, shift to lightweight industrial robots
On May 4, 2015, Luoshi Company officially started operation. As the company's flagship product, the domestic market pattern of robot control system is that more than 80% is occupied by KEBA, and the remaining less than 20% of domestic manufacturers cannot match KEBA in controller performance, so they can only make a big deal in price and take the route of low price and localized service.
At the beginning of its establishment, Luoshi Technology was only positioned as a supplier of control systems, but with the continuous development of technology, it was found that only controlling other people's ontology could not bring out the performance of the system, because many ontology parameters could not be obtained, and more accurate dynamic modeling of the ontology could not be done. At the same time, according to the market demand, we actively adjusted the direction from the high-performance controller to the 3C field, and developed high-speed, high-precision, easy-to-use lightweight industrial robots.
"In particular, the 3C industry has a unique geographical advantage in the country, 70% of the world's 3C industry is concentrated in China, and most of the 3C industry's demand for robots is a small load of lightweight robots for precision machining of machine tools, loading and unloading, polishing and assembly and other applications, and these areas are new applications for all manufacturers." Tuo Hua said that in addition to investing heavily in conquering core technologies, domestic robot companies should also clarify the positioning of products and the development direction for application fields.
In order to achieve this goal, Luoshi has made great investment in the robot control system. First, the operation interface is as simple and convenient as possible. In addition, the algorithm is also continuously studied. Currently, it can support drag teaching and collision detection, both of which will help users quickly get started with the robot. This product positioning based on customer experience needs has also been recognized by the market, making Luoshi in the field of small-load industrial robots has come to the forefront of China.
